Sunderland are a club on the mend after a disastrous few years, having dropped from the Premier League, all the way down to League One.
So far, their time in League One has been good and they look to be one of the favourites to head up back into the Championship, where they will look for stability after a turbulent time.
Their team is hardly what it once was and in January they could do with a few reinforcements, maybe even allowing former players to come back, should they be up for the fight and challenge at hand.
Having played for the Black Cats last season, bringing back Crystal Palace midfielder Jonathan Williams could be a move that this time around works out in League One, despite him not setting the Stadium of Light on fire last season.
Williams, (who is valued at £900k on Transfermarkt) is still on the books at Crystal Palace but with just a year left on his contract, Sunderland could pick him up on a very cheap deal and finally then see the best of him and what he failed to deliver last season in the Championship.
He was far from Sunderland’s worst player last season but the attacking midfielder only played 12 games, in which he scored one goal. The small, nimble Welshman definitely still has the potential to be a solid player for Sunderland given he is only still 24-years-old.
With League One set to be an easier job for Sunderland, Jonathan Williams could be the difference in such a division, giving the Black Cats a selection headache, something they haven’t had for a while.
