Barnsley will be aiming to secure their first third-tier title in 64 years when they travel to the Memorial Stadium on Saturday to face Bristol Rovers.
Daniel Stendel’s side secured promotion to the Championship without kicking a ball on Tuesday following Portsmouth and Sunderland’s shock defeats and know that by bettering Luton Town’s result at the weekend, they will leapfrog the Hatters in the standings.
After securing their League One status for another year last week, the Pirates will be hoping to end the current campaign on a high in-front of their own supporters. However, considering the fact that they have won just one of their last five home games, Graham Coughlin’s side may find it tough to overcome a Tykes outfit who are currently on a run of four consecutive victories.
With the upcoming fixture destined to be settled by whose strike-force can dominate proceedings, it will be intriguing to see whether Kieffer Moore or Jonson Clark-Harris will come out on top at the weekend
Although both forwards are lethal in-front of goal when at their very best, the battle below will reveal who is the better player.
Despite making a quiet start to his Barnsley career after joining the club from Ipswich Town in January 2018, a drop down in level following last season’s relegation has helped Kieffer Moore develop into an outstanding player at Oakwell.
Under the guidance of Stendel, the forward has fired in an impressive total of 16 goals for the Tykes and would have certainly have scored more if he hadn’t suffered a serious injury in February.
With his club securing a return to the second tier earlier this week, Moore will be hoping to prove that he is good enough to play at that level having failed to impress in the past. At the age of 26, the former Forest Green Rovers ace has enough time left in his career to become a hero for the Tykes.
TT GRADE: A-
Since joining Bristol Rovers from Coventry City in the January transfer window, Jonson Clarke-Harris has been a revelation for Coughlin’s side.
Despite arriving without a particularly good scoring record, the 24-year-old made an incredible start to his career with the Pirates by finding the back of the net in four of his first five appearances for the club and has since taken his tally to 11 for his new club.
By producing stand-out performances against the likes of Bradford City, Blackpool and Gillingham, Clarke-Harris may be a wanted man in the summer as it could be argued that without his domineering presence, the Gas would probably be preparing for a season in League Two.
TT GRADE: B+
With both forwards experiencing their best campaigns since turning professional, it will be incredibly surprising if neither of them manage to get on the scoresheet at the weekend.
However, if you had to pick one of them to lead the line, it would have to be Moore as he has been more consistent this season in comparison to Clarke-Harris.
