Wow, what a League One play-off final it was between Charlton Athletic and Sunderland last weekend.
A hilarious own goal just five minutes into the Wembley encounter after Mouhamadou-Naby Sarr and Dillon Phillips’ comedic act at the back before a stoppage-time winner from Patrick Bauer, it had it all!
And one man who certainly played his part in that 2-1 victory for Charlton was Jonny Williams, who came off the bench to impress.
The 25-year-old is now said to be of interest to Swansea City, Brentford and Luton Town (The Sun), with his short-term contract at The Valley almost up.
Charlton, however, must do all they can to convince Williams to stay, something the Welsh midfielder has not ruled out (also per The Sun).
With his injury hell seemingly behind him, £900k-rated Williams (Transfermarkt) has plenty to offer and has the sort of experience in the Championship that could go a long way for a newly-promoted side like the Addicks.
Capable of playing in the engine room and slightly further, Williams is a midfielder who combines the technical side of the game with the more physical half of it.
While he is a neat passer and a player who is comfortable with using both feet, the Wales international is also someone who will harry down the opposition and try and bring a combative presence to the middle of the park.
When you consider all of that, the former Crystal Palace man is an individual Charlton need to be retaining going into what is likely to be a gruelling campaign in English football’s second tier.
Charlton fans, what do you think the future holds for Williams? Join the discussion by commenting below.
