He’s had quite the season, hasn’t he? Liam Lindsay has played a pivotal role in Daniel Stendel’s side this season and is one of the multiple reasons as to why Barnsley find themselves in second place in League One.
Lindsay has been a mainstay in the Tykes side ever since his arrival from Partick Thistle in the summer transfer window of 2016.
The 23-year-old has continued to perform over the course of this season, too. Lindsay has started all but four times this season in League One, in which time, Barnsley have conceded the fewest amount of goals of all the teams in the League and he has helped collate 20 clean sheets so far, which is the highest tally in the division.
It is his dominance in duels, whether that be in the air or on the floor, as well as his natural ability to defend which has lead to the Scotsman to be linked to numerous other sides. The Mirror, as cited by BirminghamLive, have reported that Aston Villa and Leeds United have shown interest and given his performances for Barnsley, that is no surprise.
When Lindsay is able to return to the side, if he can help the Yorkshire outfit to automatic promotion, then he should certainly stay at Oakwell and try to help Stendel’s side establish themselves as a sturdy Championship outfit.
However, if Barnsley drops into the playoff spots and do not gain promotion via that route, then Lindsay could potentially be on his way if an offer does come in for him to play at a higher level, as he certainly has the ability.
For now, though, his focus will be firmly fixated on returning to the side and helping boost their automatic promotion hopes, but he will surely be aware that in the summer he may have some decisions to make regarding his future. Barnsley fans will be sure to hope that his decisions enable him to remain at Oakwell for the foreseeable future.
