# Leeds: Journalist makes huge Kalvin Phillips contract claim

**Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips is prepared to sign a new long-term contract at Elland Road, according to journalist David Anderson.**

### The Lowdown: Star man for Leeds

There have been numerous players who have shone under Marcelo Bielsa, but Phillips has arguably been the main hero of this era at Elland Road – every football fan wants to see local lads in their first-team.

The 25-year-old has not only performed heroically in the middle of the park for Leeds, but he also shone for England at Euro 2020, [winning](https://www.englandfootball.com/articles/2021/Sep/01/20210109-kalvin-phillips-named-england-mens-player-of-the-year-2021) his country’s Player of the Year award in the process.

### The Latest: New deal incoming?

Phillips’ current Leeds deal [expires](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kalvin-phillips/profil/spieler/351749) in the summer of 2024, but according to the Daily Mirror’s Anderson on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/MirrorAnderson/status/1443561276639219713?s=20), talks will begin soon over a new-and-improved contract.

He states in an all-important eight-word verdict that the midfielder is ‘[ready to sign a new deal at Leeds](https://twitter.com/MirrorAnderson/status/1443561276639219713?s=20)‘.

The reporter also claims Phillips ‘loves the club, is happy there and feels he is achieving all his football ambitions with them.’

### The Verdict: Huge boost for Whites

This is major news for anyone of a Whites persuasion, with Phillips surely the first name on Bielsa’s team-sheet, having become such a formidable player.

The most important thing is that the Englishman seems legitimately happy at Elland Road, too, rather than eyeing up a move elsewhere.

If the worst-case scenario does happen and Phillips eventually wants to leave, Leeds will at least be able to demand huge money for him if he signs a new deal.
