**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) journalist [Joe Donnohue](https://twitter.com/JoeDonnohue/status/1542619264267460610) has labelled a potential new contract for Joe Gelhardt as ‘excellent business’.**

### The Lowdown: Advanced talks

Gelhardt enjoyed a breakthrough 2021/22 season at Elland Road, making [20](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gelhardt/leistungsdaten/spieler/503980/plus/0?saison=2021) Premier League appearances.

The 20-year-old contributed to [six](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gelhardt/leistungsdaten/spieler/503980/plus/0?saison=2021) top-flight goals, the last of which came in the final home game of the campaign against Brighton, in which he set up Pascal Struijk with a sublime bit of [skill](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/magic-joe-gelhardt-hero-leeds-23965373) in stoppage time.

Graham Smyth of The Yorkshire Evening Post shared an update regarding the forward’s Leeds future on Thursday evening, claiming the club are in [‘advanced talks’](https://twitter.com/GrahamSmyth/status/1542614199859351554) over a new long-term deal that could be concluded as early as [next week](https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/leeds-united-in-advanced-talks-with-striker-central-to-the-future-with-several-to-follow-3751667).

### The Verdict: Perfect

It’s clear to see Leeds have a future star on their hands in Gelhardt, so extending his stay in Yorkshire beyond [2024](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gelhardt/profil/spieler/503980) would be a great move.

\[freshpress-poll id=”401711″\]

He now has a season of Premier League experience under his belt, where he came up trumps when needed most with a late winner against Norwich and the skill vs Brighton.

The forward has also recently been nominated for the [2022 Golden Boy award](https://twitter.com/LUFC/status/1537070190244073475), and you’d like to think the best is still yet to come from ‘Joffy’, hopefully at Elland Road.
