# Leeds: Junior Firpo move rumoured to be imminent

**Leeds United are reportedly on the verge of signing Barcelona left-back Junior Firpo, with a move to Elland Road now thought to be imminent.**

### The Lowdown: Leeds keen on Firpo move

The Whites are on the lookout for a new left-back this summer and Firpo has [emerged](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-transfer-rumours/leeds-whites-eye-up-move-for-junior-firpo/) as a front-runner, in that respect.

The Barcelona defender has been described as a ‘[strong candidate](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-transfer-rumours/leeds-whites-eye-up-move-for-junior-firpo/)‘ for the role and could look for a fresh challenge, in order to earn more playing time.

Firpo only managed [three La Liga starts](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/351252/Show/Junior-Firpo) last season, with Jordi Alba keeping him out of the Barca team.

### The Latest: Fresh update emerges

According to [*Calciomercato*](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/dalla-spagna-niente-milan-per-firpo-e-a-un-passo-dal-leeds-di-bi-57806) \[via [*Sport Witness*](https://sportwitness.co.uk/leeds-united-signing-will-closed-next-hours-medical-way-radrizzani-snatches-deal/)\], Leeds have made a ‘decisive thrust’ in their efforts to sign the 24-year-old, with the report even claiming that a deal ‘will be closed in the next few hours’ by ‘the club of (Andrea) Radrizzani’.

Leeds are believed to have met Barca’s €15million (£12.8m) asking price for Firpo and a medical could take place early next week.

### The Verdict: Ready-made Alioski replacement

Firpo is an exciting left-back who could thrive under Marcelo Bielsa, having averaged an incredible [92.9 percent](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/351252/Show/Junior-Firpo) pass completion rate in the Champions League last season.

That proves how adept he is in possession, suiting Leeds’ forward-thinking style down to the ground, and his attack-minded nature means he could even be an option on the left side of midfield, where he [has played on occasion](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/junior-firpo/leistungsdaten/spieler/374139).

Firpo looks an ideal replacement for Ezgjan Alioski, assuming the North Macedonian [moves on](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-transfer-rumours/leeds-ezgjan-alioski-officially-begins-talks-for-galatasaray-move/) this summer, acting as a younger but equally versatile flying full-back.
