**Pundit Kevin Campbell believes that [Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) would be the ‘best’ destination for Manchester City attacker James McAtee, [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/leeds-united-backed-to-win-race-to-james-mcatee-after-journalists-update-pundit/) report.**

### The Lowdown: Leeds links

McAtee, [primarily](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/james-mcatee/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/583199) an attacking midfielder who has also played on the wing and as a centre-forward, has been linked with a move to Elland Road this summer.

The Whites were first credited with an [interest](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-the-athletic-transfer-news-james-mcatee/) in McAtee following Manchester City’s talks for Kalvin Phillips, with [The Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11052989/Manchester-City-allow-James-McAtee-loan.html) recently revealing that City may grant a loan exit if clubs can guarantee him regular game time.

Leeds, Nottingham Forest and Villarreal are all showing a [‘strong interest’](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11052989/Manchester-City-allow-James-McAtee-loan.html) in the 19-year-old, who was labelled as ‘[stunning](https://twitter.com/JElgott/status/1420101540640067591?s=20&t=sUvUMraq3_DroJw84yaQUA)’ by BBC journalist Jordan Elgott.

### The Latest: Campbell’s comments

Campbell, who contributes for [Sky Sports](https://icdb.tv/stats/1212/Kevin-Campbell), was talking to [FI](https://www.footballinsider247.com/leeds-united-backed-to-win-race-to-james-mcatee-after-journalists-update-pundit/) regarding McAtee after learning of interest from Leeds, Forest and Villarreal.

> “I think he has a lot of good choices but I think Leeds would be best. He would get game time there next season.”

### The Verdict: Avoid

If Leeds needs to guarantee minutes for a young player who will only be at Elland Road for a season, then it could be best to avoid a move completely.

The Whites already have plenty of exciting youngsters coming through, including summer arrivals Darko Gyabi and Sonny Perkins, so including the pair with long-term futures in more match-day squads instead of signing McAtee for the season could be a more sensible move.

Sam Greenwood will also be able to provide a versatile option similar to McAtee and has first-team experience under his belt, so if no permanent deal is on the cards, it may well be the correct call to look elsewhere.
