# Leeds: Lewis O’Brien has £10million release clause

**Leeds United transfer target Lewis O’Brien reportedly has a £10million release contract in his new Huddersfield Town contract.**

### The Lowdown: Leeds still keen on O’Brien

The Whites spent much of the summer transfer window being [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-transfer-rumours/leeds-whites-still-keen-on-signing-lewis-obrien/) with a move for the midfielder, but he ended up remaining at Huddersfield.

He has since [signed](https://www.htafc.com/news/2021/september/obrien-im-delighted-to-sign-a-new-contract/) a new four-year contract with the Terriers, but a revelation that has now emerged suggests Leeds could still get their man.

### The Latest: Release clause revealed

According to [*Football Insider*](https://www.footballinsider247.com/obrien-release-clause-in-new-huddersfield-contract-revealed-after-leeds-united-bids/), a Huddersfield source has confirmed to them that O’Brien has a release clause of £10million, meaning the Whites could get their man if they are willing to pay that amount.

It is claimed that that is less than Leeds actually bid for the 22-year-old in the summer, with an overall offer of £13million supposedly tabled.

### The Verdict: Worth the money?

It is debatable as to whether or not O’Brien is worth as much as £10million, but he is an influential player in the Championship and a long-term prospect.

He [won](https://www.htafc.com/news/2020/august/lewis-obrien-named-towns-player-of-the-year/) Huddersfield’s Player of the Year award in 2019/20, also [scoring six goals and registering eight assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lewis-obrien/alletore/spieler/560694) for them.

With Kalvin Phillips possibly on the move in the not-too-distant future, O’Brien could be viewed as someone who could help fill the void.
