# Leeds: Phil Hay and Graham Smyth react to Gaetano Berardi news

**Leeds United reporters [Phil Hay](https://twitter.com/philhay_/status/1488188309436514305?s=21) and [Graham Smyth](https://twitter.com/grahamsmyth/status/1488189799429197824?s=21) have been reacting to Gaetano Berardi’s [move](https://twitter.com/FCSion/status/1488177083616579585) to FC Sion.**

### The Lowdown: Berardi’s new home

The former Whites hero, who can play [anywhere](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gaetano-berardi/profil/spieler/43084) across the back four, left Elland Road at the end of the [2020/21 campaign](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gaetano-berardi/transfers/spieler/43084).

He made [157](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gaetano-berardi/leistungsdaten/spieler/43084) appearances for the club, with the Whites keeping the Swiss defender at the club despite suffering a serious [ACL](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/berardi-leeds-united-injury-contract-19120714) tear during Leeds’ promotion run-in.

Berardi made [two](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gaetano-berardi/leistungsdaten/spieler/43084) Premier League appearances last season and has now penned a deal until the end of the season with Swiss side [FC Sion](https://twitter.com/FCSion/status/1488177083616579585).

### The Latest: Hay and Smyth reacts

In what was a quiet deadline day at Elland Road, Leeds correspondents [Hay](https://twitter.com/philhay_/status/1488188309436514305?s=21) and [Smyth](https://twitter.com/grahamsmyth/status/1488189799429197824?s=21) took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Berardi’s move.

Hay labelled it as ‘nice to see’, whereas Smyth said ‘go on Berardi’.

### The Verdict: Brilliant

Berardi established himself as a Leeds legend during his time with supporters, and it’s good to see he now has a new club after returning to [Thorp Arch](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/leeds-united-fans-react-video-22350706) in December to see his former teammates.

The 33-year-old should be an asset to the Swiss side due to his versatility and experience gained during his seven-year stay with the Whites.

Hopefully, the defender can impress in the second half of the season back in his native country, which may earn him a long-term deal beyond the summer.
