# Leeds: Whites eyeing up Che Adams move

**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) are interested in signing Southampton striker [Che Adams](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/che-adams/) in the January transfer window, according to Phil Hay for [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/4007869/2022/12/26/leeds-united-what-should-fans-expect-in-the-january-transfer-window/).**

### The Lowdown: Leeds in need of a striker

The Whites’ squad currently seems light on reliable centre-forwards, with Patrick Bamford continually [struggling to stay fit](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/patrick-bamford/verletzungen/spieler/183334) in recent months.

That sparsity has the potential to hold Jesse Marsch’s side back in the second half of the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) season, so it appears essential that the position is reinforced next month.

A new update suggests that the striker situation could be addressed in January, with Victor Orta and Leeds looking to lure a player away from a rival top-flight club.

### The Latest: Leeds eyeing up Adams

According to Hay for [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/4007869/2022/12/26/leeds-united-what-should-fans-expect-in-the-january-transfer-window/), the Whites are interested in snapping up Adams in January, seeing him as a possible solution to their shortage in attack, which is seen as a priority position alongside the addition of a new left-back.

In the report, the journalist wrote when discussing ‘plausible targets’:

> “Never totally discount Southampton forward Che Adams, either — he’s been discussed at Elland Road before.”

### The Verdict: Proven Premier League quality

While Adams may not seem to be a top-class player who could take Leeds to that next level – the 26-year-old has [never played in](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/che-adams/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/346779) European club competition – he is someone with proven quality in the Premier League over a sustained period, with Ally McCoist describing him as a ‘[terrific](https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/20000199.rangers-legend-ally-mccoist-praises-southamptons-che-adams/)‘ footballer this year.

The Scotland centre-forward has [scored 24 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/che-adams/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/346779/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/180) and registered 12 assists in the English top flight in a Southampton team often struggling in the bottom half, and he also has [six goals in 22 caps](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/che-adams/nationalmannschaft/spieler/346779/verein_id/3380) for his country.

Signing Adams could help take the burden off Bamford and youngster Joe Gelhardt, chipping in with consistent end product and being a valuable squad player for the foreseeable future.
