# Leeds: Fresh Hakan Calhanoglu transfer claim emerges

**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) continue to show interest in signing Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu this summer, with a fresh update emerging from abroad.**

### The Lowdown: Calhanoglu rumour emerges

The Whites will hopefully enjoy a busy summer transfer window, likely under new owners in [the 49ers Enterprises](https://theathletic.com/4263708/2023/03/03/leeds-united-mailbag-takeover-gracia/), bringing in a number of new signings who can improve their squad, assuming they remain in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/).

Earlier this week, Leeds were [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-contact-hakan-calhanoglus-agent-transfer-update/) with a move for Calhanoglu, who has continued to be a key man for Inter this season, starting [24](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/110373/Show/Hakan-%C3%87alhanoglu) Serie A matches.

The 29-year-old’s current deal [expires](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hakan-calhanoglu/profil/spieler/126414) at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, so this summer could be Inter’s last chance to receive a fee for him.

### The Latest: New transfer update

According to [*Inter Live*](https://www.interlive.it/2023/03/04/calciomercato-inter-calhanoglu-premier-newcastle-leeds-30-milioni/), there is still interest in Calhanoglu from Leeds, although Newcastle United are also thought to be eyeing up his signature.

A bid of around €25-30million (£22.2-26.5m) could be enough to sign him, depending on Inter’s stance in the coming months.

### The Verdict: Could be a great signing

Canhanoglu is someone who possesses both undeniable pedigree and quality, having [won 74 caps](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hakan-calhanoglu/profil/spieler/126414) for Turkey, also scoring 17 times for his country.

The Inter ace is renowned for being one of the [greatest](https://www.givemesport.com/1806818-the-greatest-freekick-ever-inter-milans-hakan-calhanoglu-from-41m-vs-dortmund-in-201314/) free-kick takers of his generation, scoring [25](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hakan-calhanoglu/alletore/spieler/126414/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&minute=&pos=&torart=207&stand=) direct free kicks and he has been [called](https://sempremilan.com/pioli-heaps-praise-on-calhanoglu-and-explains-tactical-choice-hes-a-leader-on-the-pitch) both a ‘leader’ and ‘intelligent’ by Stefano Pioli in the past.

For these reasons, Calhanoglu could be a hugely exciting summer signing by Leeds, adding an element of stardust to the midfield, not to mention a wealth of experience.

He now has a total of [303 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hakan-calhanoglu/alletore/spieler/126414) in Serie A and the Bundesliga combined, but at 29, there is no reason why he can’t remain at the highest level for several years to come.
