# Leeds: Kevin Campbell reacts to Ryan Kent update

**Rangers forward Ryan Kent could be a ‘perfect’ signing for [Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) on a pre-contract agreement, according to pundit [Kevin Campbell](https://www.footballinsider247.com/leeds-united-could-sign-perfect-jack-harrison-replacement-on-pre-contract-after-sources-reveal-pundit/).**

### The Lowdown: Kent update

The Whites were first linked with a move for Kent back in [2020](https://talksport.com/football/748749/rangers-reject-leeds-bid-ryan-kent-steven-gerrard-transfer/) and speculation has continued over the past two years.

The 25-year-old, who is out of [contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-kent/profil/spieler/279457) at the end of the season, has [reportedly](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/rangers-fc-news/ryan-kent-contract-news-spfl-3/) rejected a new ‘big-money’ deal at Ibrox and has set his sights on a move to the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/).

[Reports this week](https://motleedsnews.com/transfers/leeds-united-want-to-sign-ryan-kent-after-rangers-contract-development-aston-villa-also-in-pursuit/) have revealed that Leeds are still interested and will watch the winger in action at Anfield this evening in the Champions League.

### The Latest: Campbell’s comments

Campbell, who contributes for [Sky Sports](https://twitter.com/skysportspl/status/1537404630828609536), was talking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/leeds-united-could-sign-perfect-jack-harrison-replacement-on-pre-contract-after-sources-reveal-pundit/) regarding the update on Kent.

The pundit believes the Gers star could be a ‘perfect’ signing and an ‘ideal replacement for Jack Harrison should he leave’, but said that a move could still be a wise one even if Harrison signs new terms at Elland Road.

> “Kent would be perfect.
>
> “He would be the ideal replacement for Jack Harrison should he leave. “Kent’s contract is running down so there is a bargain to be had there. You do that deal if you’re Leeds.
>
> “They could sign him even if Jack Harrison stays and signs a new deal. Kent is a good player and you would be getting him cheap. He is affordable.
>
> “I think that would be a good move for all parties. Leeds could sign a pre-contract agreement with him in January.”

### The Verdict: Strength in depth?

Kent is [primarily](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-kent/profil/spieler/279457) a left winger who can also play as a second striker or on the right, with Jesse Marsch currently having Harrison and Luis Sinisterra as [options](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/kader/verein/399) from the left.

However, on a free, Kent could prove to be a shrewd addition to add strength in depth in the final third. He can play in a [variety](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-kent/profil/spieler/279457) of attacking roles and registered [11](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-kent/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/279457) league assists in each of the past two seasons.

He’s clearly been a player on Victor Orta’s radar for some time now, so it’ll be interesting to see if Leeds look at a potential pre-contract agreement in the New Year.
