# Leeds: Whites register Cody Gakpo interest

**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) have made an approach to sign PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo, according to [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-cody-gakpo-transfers-27673486).**

### The Lowdown: Leeds linked with Gakpo

The 23-year-old and Charles De Ketelaere were thought to be [big targets](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-journalist-de-ketelaere-gakpo-transfer-updates/) for the Whites in June. As we now know, Leeds failed to bring the latter to Elland Road after he [opted for AC Milan](https://www.acmilan.com/en/news/articles/media/2022-08-02/official-statement-charles-de-ketelaere) instead, while talk cooled when it came to a move for Gakpo after the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) club signed Luis Sinisterra.

However, [Fabrizio Romano](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-transfer-rumours/leeds-cody-gakpo-mergimberisha-cody-gakpo-transfer-gossip-news-updates/) claimed at the end of July that the PSV wizard ‘has always been on the list for Leeds’, while [reports](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-cody-gakpo-transfer-gossip/) last week even hinted at a potential move prior to the Whites’ season opener against Wolves on Saturday.

### The Latest: Interest registered

[The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-cody-gakpo-transfers-27673486) shared a story regarding Gakpo on Saturday morning, claiming that Manchester United have added the Dutchman to their transfer wish list.

Their report name-checked Leeds, adding that Victor Orta and the Whites ‘have also registered an interest’ in the forward, who is likely to cost around £40m.

### The Verdict: Unlikely?

Even though Leeds have still been linked with Gakpo recently, and have now reportedly registered their interest, it does look as if that ship has sailed.

Called a ‘[sensational player](https://twitter.com/MichaelJBell09/status/1523379440171974656)‘ by football-oranje.com editor and Dutch football expert Michael Bell, the 23-year-old netted [two](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/leistungsdaten/spieler/434675) goals in PSV’s league opener against Emmen on Saturday and is [primarily](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/434675) a left-winger who can play centrally if needed.

Jesse Marsch appears to be fairly [well-stocked](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/kadernachposition/verein/399) out wide with Jack Harrison, Brenden Aaronson, Sinisterra, Dan James and Crysencio Summerville, so Leeds could be better off looking to sign a player who is [more suited to a central role](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arnaud-kalimuendo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/585959) who can play on the left, such as [ongoing target](https://www.90min.com/posts/leeds-remain-in-talks-25m-arnaud-kalimuendo-deal-psg) Arnaud Kalimuendo.
