# Leeds: Whites closing in on Rene Maric appointment

**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) could appoint Rene Maric as assistant manager before the start of the season, according to reputable reporter Tim Thornton.**

### The lowdown: Red Bull reunion

It’s been a case of ‘stick to what you know’ so far this summer at Elland Road as Jesse Marsch has targeted familiar faces to bolster the squad, already [capturing](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/transfers/verein/399) the likes of Tyler Adams, Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen.

The Whites are also now reportedly in the market for Fenerbache striker [Mergim Berisha](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-mergim-berisha-arnaud-kalimuendo-transfer-gossip-news-updates/), known to the American after their time spent together at Red Bull Salzburg.

But, it’s not just on the field where Marsch is seemingly seeking continuity as the 48-year-old [attempts](https://theathletic.com/3452605/2022/07/22/rene-maric-29-to-join-leeds-united-as-assistant-manager/) to bring former Salzburg assistant and Borussia Dortmund first-team coach, Maric, to Thorp Arch.

### The latest: ‘Could get done’

Speaking to [Give Me Sport](https://www.givemesport.com/88039005-leeds-marsch-has-good-chance-of-bringing-exciting-figure-to-elland-road), Thornton – who works as a reporter for [Sky Sports](https://twitter.com/skysports_tim) – claimed that the appointment of the 29-year-old as assistant manager could be confirmed before the 2022/23 campaign gets underway.

He said: “It’s potentially very, very exciting for Leeds. We know that Jesse has been trying to bring somebody in to work alongside him. I think there’s a good chance that he could get done before the start of the season.”

### The verdict: Fingers crossed

After strong [speculation](https://motleedsnews.com/news/leeds-united-poised-to-appoint-manchester-united-coach-chris-armas/) linking fellow American coach Chris Armas to Yorkshire subsided, Marsch and Victor Orta will be delighted to land Maric and finally get their ducks in a row having also [almost appointed](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-leeds-united-agree-deal-with-michael-skubala/) Michael Skubala as head coach of the youth side.

The highly regarded Austrian has co-created a revolutionary website covering tactical and statistical analysis, [Spielverlagerung](https://spielverlagerung.com/), and his [expertise](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/sep/19/chatroom-bootroom-rene-maric-modern-coach-salzburg) were once called upon by Brentford and FC Midtjylland owner Matthew Benham.

Currently without a club having [left Dortmund](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rene-mari%C4%87/stationen/trainer/49415) at the end of last season, Leeds should be in the clear when it comes to any potential compensation fee owed, a handy boost given the remaining time left in the transfer window to pursue possible targets.

Whether the new arrival triggers another reshuffle amongst the [backroom staff](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/mitarbeiter/verein/399) for the likes of Franz Schiemer, Cameron Toshack and Mark Jackson remains to be seen, but, allowing Marsch to bring his preferred staff members in can only be viewed as a positive for the Whites moving forwards.
