# Leeds: James Marshment reacts to Luke Ayling update

**Reporter and [Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) supporter [James Marshment](https://twitter.com/marshyleeds/status/1626206341499961346) has been left excited at an update involving defender Luke Ayling.**

### The Lowdown: Contract extension

The Whites [confirmed](https://www.leedsunited.com/news/team-news/31055/luke-ayling-s-contract-extended) on Thursday that they have exercised an option in Ayling’s deal to keep him at Elland Road until the end of the 2023/24 season.

The 31-year-old’s initial contract was set to expire at the end of the current campaign, but he now looks set to enter his eighth season as a Leeds player.

The right-back has [featured](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luke-ayling/leistungsdaten/spieler/67420) heavily following the break for the World Cup ahead of summer signing Rasmus Kristensen, starting the last [seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luke-ayling/leistungsdaten/spieler/67420) [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) games.

### The Latest: Marshment reacts

Marshment took to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/marshyleeds/status/1626206341499961346) shortly after the news emerged on Ayling.

He labelled it as ‘great news’ and said that he’s a ‘massive presence in the Leeds dressing room and been really good in recent matches’.

### The Verdict: Good news

Ayling has been one of Leeds’ best performers in recent weeks, winning a whopping [19](https://twitter.com/JoeDonnohue/status/1624804992052781058) tackles across back-to-back games against Manchester United.

He has bounced back after Kristensen initially took the starting spot at right-back, with Ayling also being able to fill in at centre-back if needed.

Therefore, it seems to make sense to extend his stay for a further 12 months, and hopefully, he will continue to shine in what is a difficult period for the club.
