# Leeds: Stuart McKinstry set to rejoin Motherwell

**Motherwell have reached an agreement with [Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) to sign Stuart McKinstry on a season-long loan, according to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-motherwell-agree-to-re-sign-leeds-united-star-stuart-mckinstry-as-medical-lined-up/).**

### The Lowdown: McKinstry’s Leeds career

The 19-year-old joined Leeds in [2020](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/stuart-mckinstry/profil/spieler/592474) from the Scottish club and has been a regular in the Whites’ academy, making a combined [50](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/stuart-mckinstry/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/592474) appearances for the under-18s and under-23s.

The teenager made [two](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/stuart-mckinstry/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/592474/verein/399) senior appearances under Marcelo Bielsa last season, with the club’s former manager describing the Scot as having [‘great character’](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/marcelo-bielsa-wowed-leeds-united-25042415).

The midfielder is now into the final [12 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/stuart-mckinstry/profil/spieler/592474) of his Elland Road deal, though, and it looks as if a return to Scotland is on the cards.

### The Verdict: Make-or-break loan move?

Should McKinstry spend the entirety of the 2022/23 campaign at Fir Park, he will be approaching the end of his contract at Leeds by the time he returns.

Therefore, it could be make-or-break for the midfielder back in Scotland, where some impressive displays may well earn him a new deal with the Whites.

It didn’t take long for McKinstry to impress after joining in 2020 as he was [training](https://motleedsnews.com/players/highly-rated-leeds-united-18y-o-training-with-first-team-the-athletic/) with the first team before the year was out, but he has failed to make a genuine breakthrough like [Joe Gelhardt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joe-gelhardt/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/503980) and [Sam Greenwood](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sam-greenwood/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/532178) have, so a loan spell away from Elland Road could be exactly what he needs.
