# Leeds: Paul Robinson makes Takumi Minamino claim

**Former [Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) goalkeeper Paul Robinson has been reacting to the club’s reported interest in [Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/) forward Takumi Minamino.**

### The Lowdown: Minamino linked with Leeds

The Whites have [already brought in](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/transfers/verein/399/saison_id/2022) Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen for Jesse Marsch this summer and appear to be [closing in](https://www.marca.com/futbol/premier-league/2022/06/11/62a4ba45ca474140348b45b1.html) on a deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Marc Roca.

Minamino is another player of interest to Elland Road chiefs and will be able to leave Liverpool over the coming months if his [£17m](https://theathletic.com/3355484/2022/06/08/liverpool-darwin-nunez-sadio-mane/) asking price is met.

The Whites have [registered](https://theathletic.com/3355484/2022/06/08/liverpool-darwin-nunez-sadio-mane/) their interest in the 27-year-old, who starred under Marsch at Red Bull Salzburg, contributing to [20 goals in 22 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/takumi-minamino/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/165793/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=17275) on the American’s watch.

### The Latest: Robinson reacts

Robinson, who contributes as a pundit for [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/12599291/paul-robinson-leeds-survival-destiny-is-in-their-own-hands), was talking to [MOT Leeds News](https://motleedsnews.com/exclusives/leeds-united-swap-deal-to-sign-takumi-minamino-increasingly-likely-amid-raphinha-development-sky-sports-pundit/) regarding the Whites and Minamino. He labelled the Liverpool attacker a ‘top quality’ player who ‘would fit the bill’ at Elland Road, and hinted at a possible player-plus-cash deal which could take [Raphinha](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/raphinha-transfer-liverpool-jurgen-klopp-27146665) to Anfield.

The 43-year-old said:

> “It depends what type of player \[Jesse\] Marsch wants and who he wants for his system.
>
> “We know Leeds have looked at Minamino before and if that’s the type of player he wants and he’s willing to come to Leeds, then he’s a top-quality player and he’s somebody who would fit the bill to play wide and as a striker as well.
>
> “It just depends on what Marsch wants, what fits and what type of cash you can get as well as Minamino.
>
> “That’s the type of player they need, somebody who can play wide or up the middle. It would broker a deal with Raphinha if he wants to move to Liverpool.
>
> “And if you look at Liverpool’s front-three, is \[Sadio\] Mane going to be around? It doesn’t look like he’s not going to be there. \[Mohamed\] Salah’s moving into the last months of his contract.
>
> “The Liverpool deal looks more and more like it could happen for Raphinha.”

### The Verdict: Shrewd signing?

Like Aaronson and Kristensen, Minamino is another player who has already had success under Marsch in Salzburg, so a £17m swoop could be a shrewd deal, regardless of where Raphinha ends up next season.

The Japan international now has plenty of Premier League experience ([40 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/takumi-minamino/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/165793)) and would be able to play [anywhere](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/takumi-minamino/leistungsdaten/spieler/165793) across a front four.

\[freshpress-poll id=”397692″\]

Also, Marsch knows how to get the best out of Minamino and mainly used him from the [right](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/takumi-minamino/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/165793/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=17275) in Austria, so the Liverpool man could well be a [direct replacement](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/raphinha/leistungsdaten/spieler/411295) for Raphinha or provide competition anywhere in attack.
