# Leeds target Weston McKennie open to Juventus exit

**Sky Sports reporter [Florian Plettenberg](https://twitter.com/Plettigoal) has said that [Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) target Weston McKennie is ‘open’ to the idea of leaving Juventus.**

### The Lowdown: McKennie interest

McKennie was [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-keen-on-weston-mckennie/) with a move to Leeds back in October, and it seems as if an Elland Road transfer is now a real possibility in the final week of the January window.

The Whites appear to be on the hunt for a new midfielder and seemingly have McKennie on their wishlist alongside [Azzedine Ounahi](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-whites-premier-league-azzedine-ounahi-transfer-news-updates/).

The club have already made two significant first-team additions this month in [Max Wober](https://www.leedsunited.com/news/team-news/30787/leeds-united-complete-max-wober-deal) and [Georginio Rutter](https://www.leedsunited.com/news/team-news/30851/leeds-united-complete-club-record-deal-for-georginio-rutter), and it looks as if a deal for McKennie is possible, but may come at a cost.

### The Latest: Plettenberg’s comments

Talking on The Transfer Show, relayed by [Sky Sports’ transfer blog](https://www.skysports.com/ipad/liveArticle/12476234?postid=5293282#liveblog-body), Plettenberg stated that McKennie is open to joining a new club, mooting a €30m-€40m fee.

*“We’re hearing the same thing about Weston McKennie and the possibility of him going to Leeds here in Germany.*

*“McKennie has the same agent as Brenden Aaronson at Leeds, and we’re hearing Juventus have set a price tag of between €30m and €40m because he has previously been linked with Borussia Dortmund.*

*“He is open to joining another club.”*

[Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1618174586306150400) has since added that McKennie has actually already accepted a proposal from Leeds, with the two clubs discussing the terms of a potential transfer.

### The Verdict: Fits the bill?

McKennie is a USA international and turned out alongside Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson at the World Cup. He would be the latest American arrival to work under fellow countryman Jesse Marsch, should a move go through, continuing the American theme with The 49ers looking likely to [take full control](https://www.givemesport.com/88107661-leeds-latest-news-49ers-moving-forward-full-takeover-elland-road) from Andrea Radrizzani at some point in the next 12 months.

However, from a playing perspective, McKennie seems to be a smart target. He would offer plenty of versatility as he is capable of turning out as a [defensive, central or right midfielder](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/weston-mckennie/profil/spieler/332697).

The 24-year-old has [experience](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/weston-mckennie/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/332697) at the highest level for club and country and has averaged a better league WhoScored match rating ([6.57](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/338275/Show/Weston-McKennie)) than the likes of Aaronson ([6.52](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/19/Show/England-Leeds)), Adam Forshaw ([6.15](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/19/Show/England-Leeds)) and former player Mateusz Klich ([6.12](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/19/Show/England-Leeds)) this season.
