# Leeds United: Charles de Ketelaere alternatives named

**Leeds United have a long-time Victor Orta target in mind alongside Cody Gakpo if they fail to sign Charles de Ketelaere, according to [The Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10997807/Newcastle-weighing-bid-Jack-Harrison-cheaper-alternative-Moussa-Diaby.html).**

### The lowdown

Leeds ‘[have been trying](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10997807/Newcastle-weighing-bid-Jack-Harrison-cheaper-alternative-Moussa-Diaby.html)‘ to sign De Ketelaere from Club Brugge but they may soon have to concede defeat.

That’s because the player ‘[looks destined](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10997807/Newcastle-weighing-bid-Jack-Harrison-cheaper-alternative-Moussa-Diaby.html)‘ to join Serie A champions Milan instead.

De Ketelaere, who [can play on both wings as well as through the middle](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/charles-de-ketelaere/leistungsdaten/spieler/435772), may have been viewed as a replacement for Raphinha, who’s seemingly [bound for Barcelona](https://twitter.com/PhilHay_/status/1546392161972805632).

One of them is a player Leeds fans have heard plenty about in PSV Eindhoven’s Gakpo, but there is also a player with Premier League experience in the shape of Adama Traore.

Gakpo has often been [mentioned](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-psv-journalist-cody-gakpo-transfer-update/) as a target by sources in the Netherlands, but the links to Traore come from Victor Orta’s personal admiration for the player, who the Whites’ transfer guru apparently ‘[loves](https://www.givemesport.com/88027146-leeds-18m-deal-now-definitely-alive-at-elland-road)‘ and has wanted ‘[for ages](https://www.givemesport.com/88027146-leeds-18m-deal-now-definitely-alive-at-elland-road)‘.

Who is the better option for Leeds?

Well, to begin with price tags, Gakpo is valued at [£27million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/profil/spieler/434675) by Transfermarkt, considerably more than the [£18million-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adama-traore/profil/spieler/204103) Traore, who [only has a year left](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adama-traore/profil/spieler/204103) on his contract with Wolves.

What about their respective records? Gakpo has scored 42 goals and provided 33 assists in [134 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/leistungsdaten/spieler/434675) in the Eredivisie and while that may only be the [seventh-best league in Europe](https://www.uefa.com/nationalassociations/uefarankings/country/#/yr/2022), he’s also delivered in continental competition, netting seven times across the Champions League qualifiers, Europa League and Europa Conference League [last season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/leistungsdaten/spieler/434675/plus/0?saison=2021).

Adama, on the other hand, has [160 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adama-traore/leistungsdaten/spieler/204103) of PL experience under his belt but his numbers are a little underwhelming – eight goals and 16 assists.

Given that Gakpo is three years younger, it might be worth investing a little more in a player who would appear to have a higher ceiling and superior end product.
