# Leeds: The Athletic name-check Tyler Adams as possible Kalvin Phillips replacement

**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) are monitoring RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams as they eye a replacement for Kalvin Phillips, according to [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/news/leeds-kalvin-phillips-man-city-transfer-news/zqE5mZ7zWwmz/).**

### The Lowdown: Adams links

The Whites have been linked with a move for Adams recently. [Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg](https://twitter.com/plettigoal/status/1538933386219339778?s=21&t=ZFL5t8bxAlr1-ays49Shag) revealed earlier in the week that the USA international is ‘on the shortlist’ at Elland Road.

The 23-year-old, who has been described as [‘unbelievable’](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/rb-leipzig-s-tyler-adams-on-kimmich-comparisons-bayern-munich-nagelsmann-15631) by Ralf Rangnick and an [‘elite’](https://twitter.com/AndrewJStern/status/1507193395495817217) No.6 by reporter Andrew Stern, has [worked](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tyler-adams/leistungsdatentrainer/spieler/332705/plus/0/trainer_id/17275) under Jesse Marsch previously at New York Red Bulls and Leipzig.

The Bundesliga side are thought to be [open](https://twitter.com/plettigoal/status/1538933386219339778?s=21&t=ZFL5t8bxAlr1-ays49Shag) to selling the defensive midfielder this summer, and Elland Road could be a destination following a big development with Phillips.

### The Latest: Ornstein’s claim

David Ornstein of [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/news/leeds-kalvin-phillips-man-city-transfer-news/zqE5mZ7zWwmz/) shared a story on Friday evening regarding Phillips.

He revealed that Leeds and Manchester City have agreed on an initial £42m fee and added that ‘Adams is among the options they are monitoring’ as they eye a ‘proven’ replacement for Phillips.

### The Verdict: Get the ball rolling…

Adams has been compared to both Phillips and Declan Rice by [Football Transfers](https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/players/tyler-adams/similar-players), who have his skill ranked at 4.25/5 and potential at 4.75/5.

\[freshpress-poll id=”400311″\]

He’s valued at £15.3m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tyler-adams/profil/spieler/332705), so it could be wise for Leeds to get a transfer in motion by placing a formal bid in that region, looking to finalise a move as quickly as possible.

Marsch used Adams in [many](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tyler-adams/leistungsdatentrainer/spieler/332705/plus/0/trainer_id/17275) positions but mainly as a holding midfielder and will know just how to get the best out of his countryman, who may still improve on his already impressive game over the coming years, and a move could leave Leeds with money to spare from the Phillips deal to make further additions.
