# Leeds: U21 defenders suffer knee injuries

**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) youngsters Jeremiah Mullen and Keenan Carole are set to be ‘sidelined for a number of weeks’ with knee injuries.**

### The Lowdown: Mullen and Carole at Leeds

Mullen has made 37 appearances for the U18s and U21s, as per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jeremiah-chilokoa-mullen/leistungsdaten/spieler/719681), with four of those coming during the current campaign. The Scottish centre-back signed a new professional contract through to [2025](https://www.leedsunited.com/news/academy/30204/jeremiah-mullen-signs-professional-contract) earlier this year and has been with the club since [2020](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jeremiah-chilokoa-mullen/transfers/spieler/719681) after leaving Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Carole has made [55](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/keenan-carole/leistungsdaten/spieler/805888) appearances for Leeds’ youth side, with seven coming for the U21s. The French left-back has made three starts in Michael Skubala’s U21 side this season and signed a [two-year](https://www.leedsunited.com/news/academy/30033/keenan-carole-agrees-professional-contract) professional deal in the summer.

[LUFC Youth](https://twitter.com/leedsutdacademy/status/1575108061823475712?s=46&t=tjJFcD_UTpFDDsUI8xjsAQ) shared an update on Twitter regarding the pair on Wednesday afternoon.

They claimed that the defenders have both sustained knee injuries and are likely to be out ‘for a number of weeks’ as a result.

### The Verdict: Not ideal

Leeds have relied heavily on their U21s over the last 18 months, with a [record](https://motleedsnews.com/news/leeds-united-make-history-premier-league-history-with-teenage-debuts/) eight teenagers making their Premier League debuts during the 2021/22 campaign.

The likes of Illan Meslier, Pascal Struijk and Joe Gelhardt are all now considered important first-team players at Elland Road after progressing through the U21 system, so Mullen and Carole could well follow suit in years to come.

Therefore, their injury problems will come as a blow to Skubala and Leeds officials, however, hopefully, they will make a relatively swift recovery, looking to impress Jesse Marsch ahead of a potential future first-team call-up.
