# Leeds United: Dean Jones drops Adama Traore transfer claim

**[Transfer insider](https://twitter.com/deanjonessoccer?lang=en) Dean Jones has made an exciting claim regarding [Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) and a possible pursuit of [Wolves](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wolves-news/) winger Adama Traore.**

### The lowdown: Traore’s troubles

In January, the 26-year-old [joined](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12526786/adama-traore-barcelona-re-sign-forward-from-wolves-on-loan-until-end-of-season-with-option-to-buy) Barcelona on loan until the end of the season, with a £29m permanent option included in the deal.

However, since arriving in Spain, the powerful ace has made just [10 La Liga appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adama-traore/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/204103/saison/2021/wettbewerb/ES1/verein/131) for the Catalan giants, completing 90 minutes on only one occasion.

Traore is now [expected](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/adama-traore-transfer-barcelona-wolves-26872221) to return to Molineux at the end of the season, where his future remains in the balance.

### The latest: Traore ‘open’ to Leeds move

Speaking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88006059-leeds-100k-a-week-star-would-now-consider-elland-road-move), Jones has suggested that Leeds will likely be among the leading contenders to land the Spain winger in the summer.

The journalist explained: “He knows they want him. I think he’s been open to it in the past. If there’s no future for him at Wolves, or Barcelona, then he will have to consider it.”

### The verdict: Worth the risk

Traore was once dubbed [‘undefendable’](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jurgen-klopp-adama-traore-liverpool-20186548) by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp due to his frightening [pace](https://talksport.com/football/1070037/mohamed-salah-adama-traore-antonio-rudiger-fastest-premier-league-players/#:~:text=The%20German%20defender%20knocked%20up,speed%20of%2036.2%20km%2Fh.), power and direct running style, possessing [all the raw attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/140088/Show/Adama-Traor%C3%A9) to succeed at a high level, but he has often flattered to deceive in the final third.

Despite the [eight-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adama-traore/nationalmannschaft/spieler/204103/verein_id/3375) Spain international’s frightening physicality, he has just [24 direct goal contributions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/adama-traore/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/204103/wettbewerb/GB1) in 160 Premier League appearances and has earned a lowly 6.94 [Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/adama-traore/286165) rating in the Spanish top flight this term – taking only 23 touches per game – in a disappointing 2021/22 campaign.

However, with the long term [future](https://www.givemesport.com/87993490-leeds-fresh-update-emerges-over-raphinhas-future) of Raphinha at Elland Road in doubt and fellow winger Dan James [failing to hit the ground running](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/daniel-james/leistungsdaten/spieler/319301) in Yorkshire, Whites manager Jesse Marsch would indeed be wise to keep Traore in mind if the price is right this summer as Wolves potentially look to cut their losses on the 26-year-old.
