# Leeds United: Alan Hutton discusses interest in Helder Costa

**In a recent interview, former Premier League footballer, Alan Hutton, discussed the potential summer interest in Leeds United winger, Helder Costa.**

Since [joining Leeds from Wolverhampton Wanderers](https://www.footballinsider247.com/hutton-tips-costa-to-join-promotion-chasers-after-leeds-united-reveal/) back in 2019, Costa has so far gone on to make 66 appearances for the Whites, scoring [seven goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/helder-costa/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/173900) and providing [11 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/helder-costa/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/173900) along the way.

However, the [£36,000-per-week](https://salarysport.com/football/player/h%C3%A9lder-costa/) winger has found his game time under Marcelo Bielsa become more limited this season, with the 27-year-old [starting just 10 Premier League fixtures](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/118127/Show/H%C3%A9lder-Costa) for the club this term.

As a result, [Phil Hay has claimed](https://theathletic.co.uk/2433342/2021/03/07/leeds-united-west-ham-united-score/?redirected=1) that, if Victor Orta plans to bring in new signings at Leeds this summer, then Costa’s position in the side is very much “at-risk”.

And, speaking recently to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/hutton-tips-costa-to-join-promotion-chasers-after-leeds-united-reveal/), Hutton suggested that Costa could indeed leave the club at the end of the season, before suggesting that a large number of Championship sides will be interested in a move for the winger.

He said: “If \[Bielsa\] sees an opportunity to cash in, I think they can still make some money off him. There’ll be a lot of teams, especially high Championship teams, that will be interested. He’s definitely got that X factor on his day so I understand what they’re thinking.”

Indeed, as Hutton suggests, Costa has shown this season that, on his day, he can be an extremely valuable player, such as when he [bagged a brace](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/118127/MatchStatistics/H%C3%A9lder-Costa) and earned a [WhoScored match rating of 8.23](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/118127/MatchStatistics/H%C3%A9lder-Costa) in the Whites’ 4-3 win over Fulham, or when he [provided an assist](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/118127/MatchStatistics/H%C3%A9lder-Costa) in the club’s 3-0 victory at Villa Park, earning a [match rating of 7.38](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/118127/MatchStatistics/H%C3%A9lder-Costa).

However, unfortunately for Costa, these flashes of brilliance have been few and far between, as the winger’s average [WhoScored match rating of 6.31](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/118127/Show/H%C3%A9lder-Costa) over his total of 19 Premier League appearances ranks him as Leeds’ [sixth-worst player](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/19/Show/England-Leeds) in the top flight.

As such, perhaps the step down to a Championship side this summer, as Hutton suggests, would be a move that suits all parties.
