# Leeds United: Contact made with Watford over Andre Gray

**Leeds United have been in contact with Premier League side Watford over the potential transfer of Andre Gray, [according to Phil Hay](https://twitter.com/PhilHay_/status/1217013630828535808?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1217013630828535808&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fmotleedsnews.com%2Fnews%2Fphil-hay-delivers-transfer-update-after-leeds-contact-watford-over-move-for-andre-gray%2F).**

However, [The Athletic’s journalist](https://twitter.com/PhilHay_/status/1217013630828535808?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1217013630828535808&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fmotleedsnews.com%2Fnews%2Fphil-hay-delivers-transfer-update-after-leeds-contact-watford-over-move-for-andre-gray%2F) has claimed that the Hornets rejected any chance of a move for the Englishman. The Yorkshire side will be looking for a swift conclusion on the matter after seeing Eddie Nketiah return to Arsenal after he was recalled by the north London giants.

Tyler Roberts’ injury mixed with Nketiah’s departure means Patrick Bamford is the only fit centre forward at the club, posing a big danger to the club’s promotions hopes. Both Brentford, second-place, and West Bromwich Albion, first-place, have scored more goals than Marcelo Bielsa’s side, showing the strength of their promotion hopes in comparison to the Whites [(via BBC)](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/table).

The forward has struggled for both goals and starts at the relegation-threatened club recently and a move may well seem an attractive prospect for all three parties. The England C international has started none of the last nine games, notching up just two goals all campaign and if a replacement can be secured you’d like to think his departure would be likely [(via Transfermarkt)](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/andre-gray/leistungsdaten/spieler/120565).

Comparison between the Gray and Leeds’ number nine make for interesting reading. The [former Burnley man](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/131487/Show/Andre-Gray) may only have two goals, to [Bamford’s 10](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/109670/Show/Patrick-Bamford), however, with an average of just 1.1 shots per game, in contrast to the former Middlesbrough man’s 3.3, it shows he lacked the supply to make a big impact.

After their performance against [Arsenal](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50976532) and [Sheffield Wednesday](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50990353), he wouldn’t be short of goal scoring chances if signed by the club. The Whites outperformed their opponents when it came to shots on goal, but, lacked potency in crucial moments.

While he may be 28-years-old, a potential £10.8m price tag, suggested by [Transfermarkt,](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/andre-gray/leistungsdaten/spieler/120565) shows he could be a cheap and cheerful option for the remainder of this season. And with [over 85 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/andre-gray/leistungsdaten/spieler/120565) in the top-flight and in the second-tier, his experience could prove valuable for the promotion push and, potentially, in the Premier League next season.
