# Leeds United: Club interested in highly-coveted starlet likened to Vincent Kompany

**According to recent reports, Leeds United are interested in Manchester City centre-back and potential Juventus target, Luke Mbete.**

[The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2300583/2021/01/05/premier-league-prospects-2021/) claim that both Leeds and Juventus are keeping tabs on the 17-year-old defender, who The Athletic have named as one of the ’20 young Premier League players to watch out for in 2021′.

The Manchester side signed the left-footed centre-back – along with current Leeds player, Ian Poveda – from the now-folded Brentford academy, and he is already said to have caught the attention of Pep Guardiola with his performances at youth level.

A follow-up report by [Leeds Live](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/leeds-united-headlines-city-greenwood-19563965?fbclid=IwAR3xlvC5clJj5S9uHSB1bB6ZsIoB8NhY3F_oIEMm2I4hNgOL3w-Gc1-yfz8) adds that a move for the youngster, who has been [likened to Man City legend Vincent Kompany](https://m.allfootballapp.com/news/La-Liga/MICAH-RICHARDS-predicts-the-Premier-League-1-20-in-his-guide-to-the-new-season/2434848), would fit with the club’s recruitment policy of ‘hoovering up elite, teenage talent from other British clubs’.

### Transfer Tavern Take

While it is hard to make a judgement as to whether or not Mbete would be a good fit into Marcelo Bielsa’s squad as he is yet to make a professional appearance in his career, considering the fact that Guardiola has already noticed the ability of the 17-year-old, and the fact that he has drawn comparisons to players with the quality of Kompany, it would certainly appear as if the centre-back has an incredibly bright future ahead of him, be that in Manchester, Turin, or perhaps even Leeds.

**In other Leeds news, the club have attempted to hijack a deal for a young defender, find out more [here!](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-transfer-rumours/leeds-united-club-attempt-to-hijack-deal-for-frederik-alves/)**
