# Leeds United: Journalist ‘delighted’ Jack Harrison is staying

**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/)-supporting journalist James Marshment is ‘delighted’ Jack Harrison stayed at the club in the January transfer window, and believes the next aim should be to tie the winger down to a new contract.**

### The Lowdown: Harrison stays

Journalist Ben Jacobs [claimed](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-premier-league-jack-harrison-whites-marsch-transfer-news-updates/) that Harrison’s future was ‘one to watch’ going into deadline day, after he was linked with moves to a number of different [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) sides.

Aston Villa was [touted](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/aston-villa-news/aston-villa-nswe-could-make-jack-harrison-move/) as a potential destination, but the most serious interest seemed to come from Leicester City, however the winger is said to have [rejected](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-leeds-united-star-jack-harrison-rejects-leicester-city-move/) the move, putting an end to the speculation.

### The Latest: Marshment reacts

Taking to Twitter in the wake of the news, Marshment expressed his happiness, and added that he hopes Andrea Radrizzani can tie the playmaker down to a new deal.

The journalist [said](https://twitter.com/marshyleeds/status/1620555185251565574?s=20&t=m5WUbQxrqAhFhpCNUaDxNg):*“Delighted Jack Harrison is staying at #LUFC this window. A player who has contributed some big moments for this club and, even when not at his best, still poses a goal threat. The challenge now, of course, is to tie him down to a new deal. Will have just a year left come summer.”*

### The Verdict: Fantastic news

Leeds journalist Phil Hay recently [confirmed](https://lastwordonsports.com/football/2023/01/31/leeds-united-jack-harrison-leicester-city/) on the Phil Hay show that ‘talks are planned’ for the Whites to extend the 26-year-old’s contract (via Last Word On Sports), and the hope will now be that commits his long-term future to the club.

[Hailed](https://twitter.com/TomC_22/status/1561368694676144133?s=20&t=YiQEy82CmIxFGkVKxw7tKg) as ‘brilliant’ by the media earlier this season, the former Manchester City man has totalled a very respectable two goals and [seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-harrison/leistungsdaten/spieler/417346) assists from 20 appearances in all competitions this season, highlighting the threat he poses on the front foot.

Considering Jesse March’s side are still threatened by relegation, sitting just [one](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) point clear of the bottom three, losing a player of the Englishman’s ability would have been a real blow to their chances of avoiding the drop.

The manager has strengthened in midfield and attacking areas this month, signing the likes of [Weston McKennie](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12961/12796200/weston-mckennie-leeds-sign-juventus-and-usa-midfielder-on-loan-until-end-of-season) and [Georginio Rutter](https://twitter.com/SkySportsNews/status/1614362851405139972?s=20&t=qT-3iyew6ZPKujlEhmLXXg), so Harrison may now get even more opportunities to weigh in with goals and assists, given the improvements made to the squad.
