# Leeds United: Journalist discusses Erick Pulgar links

**Leeds United have been recently [linked](https://talksport.com/football/821208/leeds-united-transfer-erick-pulgar-premier-league-sign/) with Serie A midfielder Erik Pulgar, and an Italian journalist has provided some real insight into how strong these links actually are.**

### The latest on Erick Pulgar

[Gianluigi Longari](https://twitter.com/Glongari/status/1352019068732243969?s=20), who works for SPORTITALIA TV, was asked on Twitter whether the Pulgar interest has progressed past rumours to an actual offer.

Longari [replied:](https://twitter.com/Glongari/status/1352019068732243969?s=20) ‘Just rumours for the moment. They like him but no offer.’

### Would Pulgar be a good signing?

The 26-year-old is a defensive midfielder at Fiorentina and is already very experienced, boasting 24 caps for Chile ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erick-pulgar/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/215616)) and over 200 appearances in his club career. During this time, he has scored 26 goals and 15 assists.

He was praised in the past by Cesare Prandelli, who [said](https://www.en24.news/sport/en/2020/11/erick-pulgar-receives-praise-from-the-coach-of-fiorentina-he-will-be-an-important-player-i-like-him-a-lot.html): “Pulgar is a player that I like a lot, he has good physical geometry, he is powerful.”

Leeds have only Kalvin Phillips as a true defensive midfielder, and his absence against Brighton was felt, with Pascal Struijk being [criticised](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-pundit-destroys-leeds-player-who-looked-out-of-place-won-no-tackles/) for his performance last weekend after covering for the Englishman.

Pulgar has shown in his ten Serie A appearances this season that he can help break up opposition attacks, as he has managed on average 1.1 tackles and 1.2 interceptions a game ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/117055/Show/Erick-Pulgar)), so perhaps he could be solid cover for Phillips.

The [£11.25 million](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erick-pulgar/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/215616) valued Chilean would definitely add some extra quality to the squad and it could be a good signing if Leeds decide to make a move.
