# Leeds United: Whites considering Martin Terrier move

**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) are reportedly considering a move for Rennes striker Martin Terrier this summer, according to French outlet [L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Article/Mercato-martin-terrier-rennes-cible-par-leeds-et-west-ham/1344081).**

### The lowdown: Career so far

Signed from fellow French Ligue 1 outfit Lyon for £10.8m in 2020 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/martin-terrier/transfers/spieler/442891)), the 25-year-old has spent his entire career in his homeland, having come through the ranks at Lille.

The former France youth international has directly contributed to [45 goals in 83 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/martin-terrier/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/442891) for his current employers and was recently [tipped for a call-up](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2022/thierry-henry-backs-martin-terrier-for-france-national-team/) to the senior national team by Thierry Henry ahead of the World Cup later this year.

Having previously been [heavily linked](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/sadio-mane-liverpool-transfer-replacement-27109735) with FA Cup winners Liverpool, a fresh claim has emerged suggesting that Leeds are among the leading suitors to land Terrier…

### The latest: ‘Priority’ target for Leeds

As per [L’Equipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Article/Mercato-martin-terrier-rennes-cible-par-leeds-et-west-ham/1344081), Leeds have made the 25-year-old a ‘priority’ target in order to bolster Jesse Marsch’s attacking options.

It’s claimed that Terrier is ‘courted by several English clubs’ including West Ham, after the Londoners [signed](https://www.whufc.com/news/west-ham-united-complete-nayef-aguerd-transfer) defender Nayef Aguerd from Rennes earlier in the summer.

The report added that the French club will want offers of ‘at least’ €40m (£34m) in order to sanction the sale of the man who was described as [‘really underrated’](https://twitter.com/_PhilCosta/status/1467794045615460355) by One Football editor and writer Phil Costa following a hat-trick against Saint-Etienne.

### The verdict: Marquee signing

Following the significant departures of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta has wasted little time in replenishing the ranks at Elland Road with the [signings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/alletransfers/verein/399) of Tyler Adams, Rasmus Kristensen, Brenden Aaronson, Luis Sinisterra, Marc Roca and Darko Gyabi.

However, still on a positive footing when it comes to [net spend](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/transfers/verein/399) based on the business which has been completed, and with Jack Harrison still being [linked](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10997807/Newcastle-weighing-bid-Jack-Harrison-cheaper-alternative-Moussa-Diaby.html) with a move away, there remains room for at least one big expenditure during the ongoing transfer window, and Terrier looks ideally suited to fit the bill.

[Capable](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/martin-terrier/leistungsdaten/spieler/442891/plus/0?saison=ges) of playing across the frontline, the Frenchman [scored 21 times and provided seven assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/martin-terrier/leistungsdaten/spieler/442891/plus/0?saison=2021) in 45 appearances across all competitions last season. He earned an outstanding 7.30 [Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/martin-terrier/846445) rating whilst winning 4.5 duels, making 1.1 key passes and finding the target with 1.3 shots out of 2.4 on average per game – highlighting a proficiency in front of goal and a well-rounded overall package.

Sharing a close stylistic likeness with such renowned attackers as Sadio Mane, Christopher Nkunku and Hirving Lozano ([FBRef](https://fbref.com/en/players/5148dcc5/Martin-Terrier)), adding the exciting marksman to Marsch’s ranks squad would certainly be a sensational and worthwhile coup for the Yorkshire club.
