# Leeds United: Newcastle United demand £15m for target Dwight Gayle

**Newcastle United are demanding £15m for Leeds United target Dwight Gayle, [according to The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/12/02/newcastle-united-ready-consider-15m-bids-strikerdwight-gayle/).**

The Whites have been linked with a move for the Magpies forward, however, they join the likes of [West Bromwich Albion and Nottingham Forest](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/12/02/newcastle-united-ready-consider-15m-bids-strikerdwight-gayle/) in registering interest in the striker.

A move for Gayle would be a sensational transfer from a Leeds perspective, given the struggles of Patrick Bamford shown this season and Eddie Nketiah’s reported move back to Arsenal.

Bamford managed to go 10 games without a goal earlier this campaign, and despite having scored in [three of his last four games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/patrick-bamford/leistungsdaten/spieler/183334), he could use competition upfront.

Meanwhile, Nketiah has been snubbed by Marcelo Bielsa this season, starting no league game, and the club feel he will move back to north London, [according to Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/leeds-united-major-eddie-nketiah-transfer-development/).

This issue has translated on to the pitch, where Leeds have scored fewer goals than five of the top-seven teams in the Championship this year [(via BBC)](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/championship/table).

Meanwhile, Gayle has shown his quality when playing in the second tier of English football, having scored 59 goals in exactly 100 appearances at a rate of 0.59 goals per game [(via Transfermarkt)](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dwight-gayle/detaillierteleistungsdaten/spieler/196522).

He was on fire last season, scoring 24 goals as West Brom reached the play-offs. His all-round attacking play proved to be crucial for the Baggies as Gayle averaged the joint-second most shots and was the third-most fouled player per games for the Midlands side [(via WhoScored)](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/175/Archive/England-West-Bromwich-Albion).

Gayle would provide both stiff competition for Bamford and quality to the Elland Road team. Their lack of goals could become a worry come the end of the campaign, especially if their rivals continue in the same vein of form as they have thus far.
