Whites manager Marcelo Bielsa has had to contend with multiple injury problems of late, with the likes of Liam Cooper and Diego Llorente both being ruled out following the international break.
Bielsa is now without Phillips for tonight’s trip to Aston Villa after the midfielder damaged his shoulder in the 1-0 defeat to Wolves on Monday and is now facing a lengthy time on the sidelines.
What has Mills said about Kalvin Phillips’ injury?
Despite the initial indication that Phillips could be ruled out for six weeks, Football Insider have since claimed that the England international could return sooner.
The 24-year-old is currently undergoing rehab at Thorp Arch and the report added that the 21 November Premier League tie against Arsenal is seen as a potential comeback date for Phillips.
“The injury is an issue for Leeds,” Mills told Football Insider when speaking on the midfielder’s absence.
QUIZ: Can you remember these 10 Marcelo Bielsa signings at Leeds?
“He is a magnificent player. He has been absolutely outstanding of late and has got himself into the England side and that will likely rule him out of the next internationals.
“That would be a big blow for him personally. To get injured is disappointing for anybody but to get injured just as you are having a breakthrough.
“Leeds will survive but they would rather not.”
Phillips linked with Spurs and Liverpool following England impression
Phillips has recently gained recognition from England manager Gareth Southgate, who played the youngster in all three of the Three Lions’ matches this month.
Both Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have been linked with transfer interest in the 24-year-old this week, prompting various pundits and former Premier League managers to discuss Phillips’ future.
Leeds will obviously be keen to hold on to the £19.8m-rated player but time will tell whether a bid arrives from either of the Whites’ Premier League rivals.
