Leeds United are finalising a transfer for Servette defender Diogo Monteiro, according to Football Insider

The Lowdown: McKennie to sign?

The Whites look set to seal a third first-team signing of the January transfer window in Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie.

Fabrizio Romano said that Andrea Radrizzani has 'unlocked' a deal for the USA international, who looks set to move to Elland Road before Tuesday’s deadline.

An agreement on personal terms has been reached which will see McKennie join on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season, and it looks as if Victor Orta has one more signing up his sleeve this week.

The Latest: Monteiro as well…

Football Insider shared an update on Saturday, touching on the agreement for McKennie.

They added that Leeds are ‘also finalising the capture’ of Monteiro, who has agreed on contract terms in Yorkshire, with the club confident that both signings will be finalised before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

The Verdict: Future star?

Monteiro turned 18 on Saturday and has made seven senior appearances for his Swiss employers. He appears to be a potential star in the making, with scout Ron Dor dubbing him a “beast in the making” just last month.

You’d expect that the teenager will initially ply his trade in Leeds’ academy ranks at Thorp Arch, looking to impress Jesse Marsch on the training ground and during under-21 fixtures.

He’ll know that first-team opportunities could be on the cards relatively quickly, though, with Leeds handing Premier League debuts to a record number of teenagers last season.

Pascal Struijk is the perfect example of a young defender progressing through to become a first-team regular, so Monteiro could be looking to do the same over the coming years.
