Sevette centre-back Diogo Monteiro is having a medical at Leeds United today ahead of a proposed transfer to the Premier League club, according to Phil Hay.

The Lowdown: Llorente set to leave Elland Road

It looks as if the Whites are set to let go of first-team centre-back Diego Llorente before Tuesday's transfer deadline. AS Roma could be the Spaniard’s next destination, with an agreement in place over an initial loan move which will include an option to buy.

Leeds appear to be closing in on a similar move for Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie, but the USA international may not be the only late arrival at Elland Road, with an update emerging on Monteiro.

The Latest: Monteiro coming in at Leeds

Hay took to Twitter on Monday morning to share news on Llorente’s potential move to Italy.

The Athletic reporter added that teenage defender Monteiro is ‘in England to undergo a medical with Leeds today’.

The Verdict: One for the future

Leeds had Monteiro on their radar earlier this month, so it’s good to know that a move is gathering pace just before the transfer deadline. It appears as if the club may have needed to wait until the Portuguese youth international turned 18, which happened on Saturday.

You'd expect that the player will initially ply his trade in the under-21s, but he could well be a future first-team star, with scout Ron Dor describing Monteiro as “a beast in the making” and “such a monster”.

Jesse Marsch has four senior centre-back options at his disposal, should Llorente seal an exit, so we could yet see Monteiro in a matchday squad over the next 12 months if he impresses at Thorp Arch, or if more than one of Leeds’ current centre-backs are sidelined through injury or suspension.
