Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has said that the Yorkshire club would be ‘saving themselves money’ if they secured a new contract for Ezgjan Alioski.
Since gaining promotion to the Premier League this summer, Leeds have made an impressive impact in England’s top flight, producing a string of good results against the likes of Manchester City and most recently Aston Villa.
Alioski has featured regularly for the Whites, starting the game against Villa at left-back (Sky Sports), and reports have now claimed that a new contract offer is on the cards. The 28-year-old North Macedonia international is in the final year of his current deal at Elland Road and has featured 138 times for the club thus far.
What has Whelan said about Ezgjan Alioski’s proposed new deal?
“Alioski has proven time and again that he is a capable left-sided player.
“We saw his enthusiasm and direct nature when he came up against Matty Cash last week. I think Matty Cash is still sleeping it off right now, Alioski and Harrison gave him that much of a battering down that side. I felt sorry for him that night.
“Alioski is a player that is consistent when called upon. He is goal threat, he can create, he can defend and his energy is unbelievable.
“Absolutely, Leeds should tie him down. They would be saving themselves a lot of money by doing so.”
Does Ezgjan Alioski deserve a new deal?
Despite making just his second Premier League start for Leeds against Villa, Alioski is a valued member of Bielsa’s squad and has featured in the majority of their recent games, as per Transfermarkt.
The utility player’s potential new deal comes as no shock to fans who have seen him play a massive part in the club’s resurgence and return to England’s top flight after a 16-year absence. Capable of playing in a wide variety of roles, his versatility makes him one of those players that every manager would likely appreciate.
