Leeds United transfer target Cole Brannigan is ‘certain’ to leave Linfield, according to Alan Nixon.

The Lowdown: Leeds linked with Brannigan

The Whites have been proactive over the summer when it comes to their youth ranks, bringing in a number of highly-rated teenagers.

Goalkeeper Rory Mahady was the latest to pen terms in Yorkshire after leaving Scottish giants Celtic, and it looks as if Brannigan is the next player on the club’s radar.

Reports over the weekend suggested that, even though the transfer window doesn't open again until January, Leeds are ‘keen’ on the Northern Ireland youngster, along with Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.

The Latest: Nixon’s update

MOT Leeds News relayed an update from Nixon’s Patreon account on Sunday regarding Brannigan.

He stated that the midfielder has been on trial with Manchester City, with Leeds on the Premier League champions’ "tail" when it comes to a move for the youngster. The journalist added that the teenager is also "certain to move shortly".

The Verdict: Decision soon?

It looks like it could be just a matter of time until we find out where Brannigan will be plying his trade next, and Leeds officials could be hoping that he chooses Elland Road over the Etihad Stadium.

The player could well be a future star given the amount of interest that he is already generating, and after they pipped City to Mahady, Leeds may still fancy their chances of landing the Irish teenager.

There is a clear pathway through to senior football in Yorkshire, with the Whites not afraid of giving academy graduates a place in the first team squad, so that may well appeal to Brannigan when he decides his next destination.
