Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has become the latest pundit to react to Patrick Bamford’s latest injury setback, Football Insider report.

The Lowdown: Bamford’s injury

Bamford has missed the majority of the season with ankle, hamstring and foot problems, making just seven Premier League starts.

Two of those have come under Jesse Marsch, however, the 28-year-old limped off against Wolves prior to the international break.

It has since been confirmed by the club that the forward has been suffering with a foot issue all season and has now ruptured his plantar fascia, with medical chief Rob Price stressing that Bamford now needs a 'period of rest and rehabilitation' at Thorp Arch.

The Latest: Mills reacts

Mills, who contributes for Sky Sports News, was asked by FI for his thoughts on Bamford’s latest setback.

He described it as ‘slightly bizarre’ but hoped to see the forward back in action before the end of the season.

“It’s a disappointing one for Patrick, strange injury.

“With the plantar fascia that’s normally an overuse injury. That’s the sort of injury a runner gets.

“That’s what happens when you run for miles, pounding the streets, mile after mile.

“It’s not really a common injury in football, especially when you strain or snap it which is what seems to have happened here.

“That’s incredibly unfortunate and slightly bizarre, I just hope he’s back as soon as possible and we get to see him before the end of the season.”

The Verdict: Summer return…

Marsch stated prior to the 1-1 draw with Southampton that Bamford could be available for the final two games of the season against Brighton and Brentford.

Hopefully though, the Whites will be clear of the relegation zone come May, and if that is the case it would make sense to take no risks with the striker and leave a return for pre-season.

His injury issues this season have also outlined that the club may need to bolster their central attacking ranks over the summer, when all going well, Leeds will be preparing for a third season in the Premier League.
