Journalist Dean Jones has been reacting to Leeds United’s interest in Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner.

The Lowdown: Wagner interest

The Whites were linked with a move for Wagner in the summer, but as we know, a transfer failed to materialise. Reports after the summer window slammed shut then said that the German wants to move to Elland Road in January and turned down moves to Dinamo Zagreb, Stade Reims and Olympiacos in a bid to join Jesse Marsch's side in the New Year.

Phil Hay has recently confirmed interest in Wagner heading into 2023, and Jones has been giving his thoughts on the speculation.

The Latest: Jones’ comments

Talking to GiveMeSport, Jones said that Jesse Marsch will get ‘extensive contacts and understanding’ when it comes to the full-back and if he would be a good fit in Yorkshire.

“Obviously, there is an interest here, so that’s a good start.

“Marsch is going to have extensive contacts and understanding of the player through people he knows in terms of whether he is a good fit.”

The Verdict: Alongside Wober?

RB Salzburg centre-back Maximilian Wober could well be the first arrival of 2023, with talks open over a potential deal between the two clubs.

Wober can also play as a left-back, but reports have suggested that Leeds would still want a new left-back and forward alongside the Austrian.

Wagner, labelled as a 'fighter' by team-mate Aurelien Collin, may well be that man and someone who could be fairly cheap with his contract with the MLS side having exactly 12 months left to run.
