Leeds United goalkeeper Elia Caprile is being looked at by several clubs in Italy, according to Phil Hay.

The Lowdown: Impressive loan spell

Caprile, who made the move to Leeds from Chievo in 2020, spent the most recent campaign on loan with Serie C side Aurora Pro Patria. The 20-year-old made 39 appearances back in his homeland last season, keeping 13 clean sheets.

He was described by those in Italy as ‘Saint Elia’ and the ‘goalkeeper of miracles’ following his promising performances, and it looks as if a return to Italy could be on the cards this summer.

The Latest: Hay’s claim on Caprile

Hay shared a story for The Athletic on Saturday morning, looking at the contract status of every Leeds player.

When it came to Caprile, the Leeds correspondent said that the club do ‘like him’, but the reporter added that ‘giving him more of an opportunity will be difficult’ next season, adding that ‘Italian sides are looking at him again’.

The Verdict: Exit could makes sense

Caprile still has two years left on his Elland Road contract but appears to be near the bottom of the goalkeeping pecking order in Yorkshire along with Kiko Casilla.

The Whites have Illan Meslier as first choice, whereas Kristoffer Klaesson and Dani van den Heuvel are second and third choice respectively and work with Meslier at Thorp Arch.

They are well-stocked in the goalkeeping department, so another loan move to Italy for Caprile, or even a potential permanent exit if the fee is right, could be best for all involved.
