Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has weighed in with what he knows on Leeds United’s pursuit of RB Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson.

The Lowdown: Two bids turned down

The Whites are seemingly desperate to land Aaronson, who shares the same agent as Adam Forshaw, before Monday’s deadline, with the club allegedly mulling over a third bid.

Leeds have already tabled offers worth £15m and £20m respectively but now have just days to push through a winter window deal.

Phil Hay expects a quiet end to the window should a move for Aaronson prove impossible, and Romano has now weighed in with what he knows on the situation.

The Latest: Romano’s comments

Romano, featuring on Que Golazo Podcast, confirmed that Marcelo Bielsa is ‘intrigued’ over a move for the USA international, with Salzburg rejecting a first proposal.

The transfer expert added that the Whites are ‘obsessed’ with the 21-year-old but Salzburg want to wait until the summer to discuss a transfer.

The Verdict: Not ideal

Leeds have a relatively small squad as it stands and don’t have an out and out attacking midfielder, so Aaronson, labelled as 'silky' by DaMarcus Beasley, could have been the perfect January signing.

He’s in the top 1% in Europe when it comes to distance covered and can also play on the wing, so it's no surprise his work rate and versatility appeal to Bielsa. However, it looks as if the Whites need to remain patient when it comes to bringing the American to Yorkshire.

Things may still change, of course, but with Cody Drameh moving to Cardiff on loan and Crysencio Summerville linked with a move to Hamburg, Leeds could actually be worse off after the January window in terms of squad depth, which could prove costly in the second half of the season.
