Feyenoord reportedly fear Leeds United could still make a move for manager Arne Slot in the summer.

The Lowdown: Slot staying put for now

The Whites were heavily linked with a move for Slot earlier in the week and reportedly made a proposal to the Dutch coach.

However, the 44-year-old, labelled the ‘most exciting head coach’ in a decade by Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan, ruled himself out of an immediate move to Elland Road on Friday. Slot wasn't the first target Leeds have missed out on, though, with failed moves for Raul, Carlos Corberan and Andoni Iraola.

The Latest: Manager update

MOT Leeds News relayed an update from the print edition of The Sunday Mirror regarding Leeds and Slot. They said that Feyenoord, and by extension club officials, fear the Whites could take a huge gamble by appointing a caretaker manager until the summer before making their move for Slot.

The report adds that the Europa League side could be powerless to resist Slot leaving for Leeds at the end of the season due to a clause in his contract that allows him to leave for the Premier League in the summer.

The Verdict: Decision needed

Bringing in a temporary manager over the coming months in order to pursue Slot in the summer could be viewed as a risk in regards to Leeds’ immediate Premier League status, but if the club are adamant that he is their man, it may well be a gamble worth taking.

Reports have seen the Whites linked with former Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder, a coach who was recently sacked by the Dutch giants. Joe Wainman admitted he was ‘massively worried’ regarding the possibility of Schreuder taking over in Yorkshire, so appointing an interim Premier League experienced manager could be the way to go before potentially looking at Slot again, but a decision is needed soon.
