Leeds United have identified Cincinatti's Brandon Vazquez as a long-term target for manager Jesse Marsch, Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports reports. 

The lowdown

Vazquez, 23, is a predominant centre-forward who has some experience of playing on the flanks.

His contract with the Major League Soccer outfit is due to expire at the end of 2022, and so Leeds might sense an opportunity.

Vazquez has been capped by the United States at Under-23 level and Jacobs says a senior outing is 'very possible soon'.

In Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams, former New York Red Bulls coach Marsch has already signed two players who have passed through MLS.

Jacobs wrote on Twitter that Vazquez is 'another forward being tracked' by Leeds - and by extension their director of football Victor Orta.

However, he's been 'told [that it's] unlikely Leeds will move' in this particular window.

'Marsch [is] a fan' but Vazquez is seen as a 'long- not short-term option' for the Whites.

The verdict

You can see why Vazquez has caught the eye of Leeds.

He's scored 15 goals and provided four assists in 25 matches this term, netting every 136 minutes on average.

Given that he's still fairly young, you'd think he could still get much better too.

Vazquez, who as named one of the league's All Stars earlier this year, has 'massive' potential, in the words of his head coach Pat Noonan.

And his contribution extends beyond putting the ball in the back of the net.

"Not just with the goals, but his ability to hold the ball, his ability to work defensively for our team," Noonan said. "He does a lot of little things to help the group have success."
