Leeds United reporter Beren Cross believes that the club will look to sign a striker and a left-back in January.

The Lowdown: Summer additions

The Whites haven’t been active in winter transfer windows in recent years under former manager Marcelo Bielsa, completing most of their business in the summer instead.

However, with the January window just around the corner, speculation has begun as to who could come in to bolster Jesse Marsch’s squad.

Brazilian forward Pedro and young Spanish left-back Jesus Vazquez have been linked with moves to Yorkshire recently, and it seems as if those areas are positions of interest to Elland Road officials.

The Latest: Cross’ comments

Cross shared a notebook for Leeds Live, answering various Whites-related questions.

When quizzed as to whether the club will be active in the New Year, he said that Victor Orta’s ‘line of thinking’ appears to be on landing a new forward and left-back.

Cross replied: “We certainly hope so and that's the noise we're hearing from Elland Road. A striker and a left-back are the obvious routes they should take and we're led to understand that's Orta's line of thinking too.

“There may even be some outs. It's not a huge squad with a lot of players on the periphery looking for minutes, but Mateusz Klich may be tempted, at this stage of his career, to look for more minutes elsewhere.”

The Verdict: Exciting

Leeds supporters haven’t been used to January arrivals, so this claim from Cross is certainly an exciting one for the Elland Road faithful.

A new left-back addition could allow Pascal Struijk to return to his favoured central role, while a new striker would take the pressure off of Rodrigo and young winger Crysencio Summerville following their impressive runs of form prior to the World Cup break.

You’d expect that Orta will have his specific targets for each position, and hopefully Leeds' business can be completed relatively quickly.
