Leeds United are eyeing up a move for former Watford manager Javi Gracia, Phil Hay reports.

The Lowdown: Bottom three

The Whites confirmed last week that caretaker Michael Skubala would continue to lead the first team following back-to-back fixtures with Manchester United.

However, Leeds fell to a disappointing defeat to Everton on Saturday and now sit in 19th place in the Premier League. That performance and result appear to have made the club rethink their managerial situation, with Gracia another new option.

The Latest: Leeds update

Hay took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to share a manager update he’s heard from Elland Road.

He said that Gracia is ‘emerging as an option for the Leeds United head coach's job’, adding that the ‘club's search being renewed after Saturday's defeat to Everton’.

The Verdict: Makes sense

Gracia averages just under a year at every club he has been with during his career, so he could be a shrewd interim appointment until the end of the season.

The 52-year-old likes to play a 3-4-2-1 system and has previous experience in the Premier League with Watford. Currently out of work, Gracia guided the Hornets to an 11th-place finish in the top flight in his only full season in charge back in 2018/19, winning 14 games.

Victories are needed at Elland Road in the club’s final 15 fixtures, and it looks as if Gracia could well be handed the job until the summer, which appears to make sense.
