Alex Bruce has suggested Kalvin Phillips could have his head turned by Liverpool amid their reported interest.
Speaking to Football Insider, Alex Bruce has suggested Leeds talisman Kalvin Phillips could have his head turned by Liverpool.
Reports in recent days have suggested that the midfielder is a potential transfer target for the reigning Champions League holders this summer.
Phillips of course has spent his entire career at Elland Road, making an impressive 175 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing ten assists.
Despite the Whites being on course for a return to the Premier League themselves, Bruce has claimed that Liverpool may have the kind of pulling power that would be difficult for Phillips to turn down.
He said: “I think there’s no reason why he wouldn’t, why doesn’t everybody deserve the opportunity? He’s got great potential, he’s an excellent player, I think he would take some prising away from Leeds because Leeds in the Premier League, he’s a Leeds lad, everybody can see he’s got a huge, huge rapport with the supporters.
“However, when a club like Liverpool comes in, if they are in for him, then obviously that would turn anyone’s head. I don’t see any reason why that would be nonsense because he’s a very good player, he’s young, the right age and has got huge potential.”
Can Leeds United keep hold of Kalvin Phillips?
Whilst there’s definitely an argument to make that Phillips stands a far better chance of lifting major trophies at Liverpool, just how big of a role would he actually play in them actually winning them?
The Reds boast multi-million pound talents in the midfield area, and it’s difficult to see how he would be a regular starter for them, week-in and week-out.
At Leeds, he’s a homegrown hero, and will surely want to play a major part as they look to get back to the top-flight once more. The grass isn’t always greener, and in Phillips’ case, even a team like Liverpool shouldn’t take his eyes away from Elland Road.
