Leeds United appear to be at the front of the queue to sign Barcelona teenager Ilias Akhomach.

The Lowdown: Akhomach speculation

The Whites have been linked with a move for Akhomach this year, with the winger out of contract at the Nou Camp at the end of the season.

Reports suggested that Leeds, and by extension sporting director Victor Orta, have already reached a four-year agreement with the 18-year-old, with a new update now coming to light.

The Latest: Transfer update

Reliable Spanish outlet Sport provided an update regarding Akhomach in the last 48 hours. They said that the player will leave Barcelona this summer, with an offer from the Catalan giants ‘well below those’ from England and Italy.

The report names Leeds as the club leading the race for Akhomach, with Barcelona set to receive compensation for the teenager.

The Verdict: Good news

The 18-year-old is primarily a right-winger who can also play on the left or through the middle and is valued at €3m (£2.7m) by Transfermarkt.

The left-footed forward has already featured for Barcelona at first-team level on three occasions, so a move could prove to be a shrewd one in the long run, especially as Barcelona made an offer to keep him in Spain so clearly think highly of the player.

The Whites have had success in the past in bringing teenagers to Elland Road and bringing them through to their senior side, with Wilfried Gnonto being the latest example, so hopefully, Akhomach will complete a move to Yorkshire in the summer and have a similar impact.
