Leeds United are close to agreeing on personal terms with Bayern Munich midfielder Marc Roca, according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg.

The Lowdown: Busy few weeks

Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta haven’t wasted any time in bolstering the first-team squad ahead of Jesse Marsch’s first full season in charge.

Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen have both joined from RB Salzburg, with attention now turning to midfield additions.

Roca was first linked with a move to Elland Road by Phil Hay last week, and it looks as if a transfer is already edging closer.

The Latest: Plettenberg’s post

Plettenberg took to Twitter on Monday evening to provide an ‘update’ on Leeds and Roca. He said ‘Leeds is hot’ and that a personal agreement is ‘close’ for a contract until 2026.

The Sky Sports reporter added that Bayern Munich are willing to part ways with the Spaniard after signing Ryan Gravenberch and being in ‘concrete’ talks for RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer.

The Verdict: Needed

Aaronson became the first senior midfield arrival since January 2018. However, the USA international is a more attack-minded player and looks set to be used as an inverted winger, whereas Roca is primarily a holding midfielder.

Kalvin Phillips is the only defensive midfielder on the books at Elland Road, and with Manchester City launching a bid for the 26-year-old, defensive midfielders are definitely needed for Marsch.

It looks as if things are progressing nicely when it comes to a move for Roca, which can only be positive signs, but with Roca not viewed as a replacement for Phillips, more holding midfielders could be needed, should the Leeds star move to the Etihad.
