Leeds United defender Max Wober looks set to be out of action for weeks after dislocating his shoulder against Everton.

The Lowdown: Wober at Leeds so far

The Austrian moved to Elland Road last month and has already become a regular under former manager Jesse Marsch and caretaker boss Michael Skubala.

The 25-year-old has made nine appearances for the Whites, starting the last five games in the Premier League as a centre-back. Hailed by Marsch as ‘very intelligent’, ‘gifted’ and a ‘real leader’, the versatile defender can also feature at left-back.

The Latest: Wober injury blow

Wober was replaced at half-time on Saturday for Rasmus Kristensen and appears to have dislocated his shoulder at Goodison Park.

That’s according to The Mirror (20 February, pg. 6), as relayed by MOT Leeds News, who claim that the Austrian could now be out of action for two to three weeks.

The Verdict: A blow for Leeds

Wober has been Leeds’ best-performing January signing ahead of Weston McKennie and Georginio Rutter, as per WhoScored, so this update isn’t ideal.

Captain Liam Cooper has also missed four of the last five league games through injury struggles of his own, so options at the back could be limited for this weekend’s crucial fixture against Southampton.

With Wober seemingly out and Cooper struggling for fitness, Leeds may be forced to go with Robin Koch and Pascal Struijk after they parted ways with Diego Llorente last month. That could see Luke Ayling continuing at right-back and Junior Firpo at left-back, with the Whites potentially down to the bare bones for central defenders.
