The lowdown: Previous interest
The Whites were extensively linked with a move for Camara earlier in the window, with some reports even suggesting that a transfer was ‘imminent’ and the player adding to speculation with his social media activity – replying to messages from a Whites supporter with love heart emojis.
However, the switch failed to materialise and the 22-year-old Mali international remains in situ in Austria, where he has made 76 appearances after arriving from his hometown club AS Real Bamako in 2018.
Now, amidst interest from Premier League rivals Everton, it appears as though Camara’s future is more in doubt than ever as a fresh report suggests a departure could still be in the offing this summer…
The latest: ‘On the verge’
It’s claimed that the Austrian Bundesliga champions aren’t displeased with Camara, but the Malian ‘has other plans’ and ‘really wants to leave’ in the ongoing window, so suitors may now come back to the table.
The verdict: Worth a gamble
Albeit Victor Orta has already furnished Jesse Marsch’s squad with the arrival of Tyler Adams to replace Kalvin Phillips, adding another option to the midfield department at Elland Road would be a welcome boost, particularly given Adam Forshaw’s wretched injury record.
Last season, Camara scored once and provided five assists in 36 appearances across all competitions, earning a superb 7.20 Sofascore rating whilst winning 6.4 duels, making 1.3 interceptions and completing 1.8 successful dribbles per Austrian top flight outing – highlighting his impressive attacking and defensive acumen.
Whilst the interest may have subsided at first, with the £24.3million valued Malian clearly still pushing for an exit, perhaps Orta and Marsch could be tempted into rekindling their pursuit.
