Leeds United will reportedly make a new offer for FC Zurich forward Wilfried Gnonto in the coming days.

The Lowdown: Gnonto rumours

Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio was one of the first to break the rumours regarding Gnonto, claiming at the weekend that Leeds were looking to wrap up a deal by August 25.

Rumours have gathered pace since, with reports suggesting that an agreement on personal terms with the player is ‘essentially there’.

Gnonto is into the final 12 months of his Zurich contract and has been on Leeds’ radar for a long time, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Latest: Transfer update

Sports Witness relayed an update from Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, who previously reported on the personal terms agreement being close, regarding Leeds and Gnonto.

They claimed that the Whites will make a 'new assault' for the youngster in the coming days after the club’s opening proposal failed to meet Zurich’s demands.

The Verdict: Fingers crossed

It appears as if Gnonto is a firm target between now and the September 1 deadline, so hopefully, the club can strike an agreement with Zurich relatively soon.

Already a full Italy international, Gnonto has been hailed as a player who 'can do everything' by Roberto Mancini, can play anywhere in attack and is valued at £9m by Transfermarkt.

Leeds appear in desperate need of a new forward and Gnonto could be the perfect third option at the club alongside Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt, and they could still be getting a bargain even if they have to pay the mooted €10m.
