Leeds United employee Noel Whelan has been reacting to a stat regarding midfielder Tyler Adams, Football Insider report.

The Lowdown: Creating chances

Adams made the move to Elland Road over the summer after Kalvin Phillips joined Manchester City. Since then, the USA international has formed a solid partnership with fellow summer arrival Marc Roca, playing every Premier League minute so far.

The 23-year-old holding midfielder ranks highly in TheOther14’s chances created from open play table, with winger Jack Harrison also featuring in the top 20. Adams has created an impressive eight chances, and that has caught the eye of Whelan.

The Latest: Whelan reacts

Talking to FI regarding the stat on Adams, Whelan said that it may ‘shock’ some people and hailed the midfielder for his start to the season.

“I think if you asked anybody, they wouldn’t come up with that stat.

“They’d probably say Aaronson is our most creative influence – so that might come as a bit of a shock.

“He does a lot of defensive work, and the attacking side of his game goes a little bit unnoticed because of how hard he works in that midfield.

“This just goes to show he’s not just a one-trick pony. He’s there to provide creativity as well as a real presence defensively.

“He’s brave enough to get forward and get into the right positions to make something happen.”

The Verdict: Good to see

Adams has settled in extremely well at Elland Road, and it is surprising to see his creative influence from a holding midfield role.

He also averages more tackles than any Leeds player so far, as per WhoScored, and is making an impression going forward as well.

You can see why Jesse Marsch wanted to reunite with his fellow countryman in the summer, and hopefully, Adams can continue his impressive start, creating more chances from open play as well as providing a solid midfield base alongside Roca.
